      Summary: We do not collect, store, or sell your personal data. Your text is processed by third-party AI services only when you use the extension. All settings are stored locally on your device.
    

1. What This Extension Does

AI Writing Assistant lets you select text on any webpage and transform it using AI — rewrite, summarize, fix grammar, translate, and more. It also provides a popup for writing and transforming text from scratch.

2. Data We Collect

We do not collect any personal data. Specifically:

We do not collect your name, email, or any identifying information.
We do not track your browsing history or the websites you visit.
We do not use analytics, cookies, or tracking scripts.
We do not have any servers that receive or store your data.

3. Data Processed by Third-Party AI Services

When you use the extension to transform text, the selected text is sent to one of the following AI services for processing:

Google Gemini API (default free mode) — governed by Google's API Terms of Service
OpenAI API (optional, if you provide your own key) — governed by OpenAI's Terms of Use
Anthropic Claude API (optional, if you provide your own key) — governed by Anthropic's Terms of Service

Text is sent directly from your browser to these services. It does not pass through any servers owned or operated by MidoWills Lab. We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of the AI service you choose to use.

4. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The extension stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.local):

API keys — If you choose to enter your own OpenAI or Claude API key, it is stored locally on your device. It is never transmitted to MidoWills Lab or any third party other than the respective API provider.
Usage count — A simple counter of how many times you've used the extension today (for free-tier limits) and total lifetime usage.
Preferences — Your chosen API provider, model, and default settings.

This data never leaves your device and is not synced across devices. You can clear it at any time by removing the extension.

5. Permissions Explained

storage — Save your preferences and API keys locally on your device.
activeTab — Access the current page to detect selected text and display the floating toolbar.
contextMenus — Add a right-click menu option for text transformation.
Host permissions (API domains) — Send your selected text to AI APIs for processing when you use the extension.

6. Data Sharing and Selling

We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to any third parties for any purpose, including advertising, marketing, or analytics.

7. Children's Privacy

This extension is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, the changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
